From California to Lyon, France: living & studying abroad…and coming back!
There are two very special periods in France known as Les Soldes.
Basically, the government restricts items from going on sale except for these times: the winter sales and the summer sales.
And now, starting from exactly January 11th and ending on exactly February 14th, every shop has gigmongous signs of “SOLDES!!” and 30, 40, 50% off, etc. :) It’s really quite nice, but quite different from constant sales, promotions, and deals in the States (like the continual rush of 20% coupons at Bed, Bath, and Beyond).
I think this will be the last time I buy clothes, scarfs, etc. here before I leave back to the States. Everything is so much cheaper, but every place is so much more crowded.
And now that it’s the end of January (I can’t believe it!) there are new mark-downs: 60%, 70% off.
I think I might have to go “faire les soldes” (literally it means “make the sales”, but really it means “buy stuff at the sales” for lack of a better translation) this week!
